Many people have asked me over the years, “How can I find a good church?”
My response is always the same – Look for love! Since God is love – then where His people gather for worship, ministry, and fellowship ought to be exuding the unfailing love of God – both in the atmosphere – and – in the hearts and actions of the people.
A church without love is like a life without oxygen – it won’t work – and it eventually ends up dead!A church without love is like a life without oxygen. Click To Tweet
Jesus demonstrated to all of us His desire for there to be true and genuine love and compassion in the life of the church in one of His resurrection encounters with Peter:
“This was the third time Jesus appeared to His disciples after He was raised from the dead. When they were finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?’ ‘Yes, Lord,’ Peter replied, ‘You know I love You.’ Jesus said, ‘Feed my lambs.’ Again Jesus said, ‘Simon son of John, do you love Me?’ He answered, ‘Yes, Lord, You know that I love You.’ Jesus said, ‘Take care of My sheep.’ The third time He said to him, ‘Simon son of John, do you love Me?’ Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, ‘Do you love Me?’ He said, ‘Lord You know all things, You know that I love You.’ Jesus said, ‘Feed My sheep’.”
In the life and actions of every true church, you will always experience the unfailing love of God. From this flows everything else that is made available to the Christian believer.
The church expresses God’s heart, word, and nature – and – God – is love.
