“Think On These Thing” B101.5FM Radio Message 8/12/17

If we look hard enough at some of today’s headlines – it’s very easy to become discouraged. Let’s face it, there are brutal and horrific realities taking place in the earth, and many of them are just simply hard to bear and even harder to understand. But we can’t stop or camp out there, or be governed by depression, despair, or discouragement.

Someone said – “To look around is to be distressed – to look within is to be depressed – but to look to God is to be blessed.” This is an accurate statement, but there is one with even greater truth; It is the scripture that says: “Looking unto Jesus, the Author and the Finisher of our faith.” [Hebrews 12:2].

It is important to realize that looking to God is not a cop-out, or an ignoring of the issues. Looking to God doesn’t make all the bad go away, or sweep it under the proverbial rug. But as we look to Him in simple and humble faith, He keeps our hearts right, our eyes focused – our minds sound – our future strong – and our feet firmly planted on solid ground. Then we realize – In all things – God gets the last word! And through His word we learn that God is working all things out according to His divine plan, and all things are moving forward according to His divine will.

The scriptures also teach us something that helps to strengthen our hope, comfort our hearts and place our trust in something greater than our own feelings, emotions, intellect, or perspectives: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” [Proverbs 3:5-6].

There is a beautiful old Gospel Hymn that speaks volumes:

‘Turn your eyes upon Jesus – look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His Glory and Grace.’
