St. Francis of Assisi Quote

“Think On These Things” B101.5FM Radio Message 8/8/17

St. Francis of Assisi said: “Start by doing what is necessary, then do what is possible, suddenly, you are doing the impossible.”

In all of human History, people who had the greatest and most positive impact on humanity, were those men and women who simply started out doing the basic things that were necessary. Necessary, meaning, those basic things in life that contribute to the human condition, including helping and giving toward blessing and strengthening people’s health and well being.

Whether working hard and honestly each day, or providing food, warmth and clean water to the downtrodden, or simply helping the elderly by carrying or loading their groceries. A good friend of mine says: “Let God place His Super – on Your natural.” In other words, be willing to start by doing those things that are possible – and God will bring you – to the impossible!

When Noah began to build the Ark, he started out by sharpening an axe, which was necessary, then he cut down the first tree, which was possible. As a result, He was able to build a ship, which was able to withstand the flood, which was doing the impossible. But with God, the process always works.

You never know when God is about to propel you into the miraculous and the supernatural. The shepherd David learned how to slay the lions and the bears in the wilderness to save his sheep. God then has him slay the giant Goliath to save the Lord’s sheep. He then becomes the King. With God, the process always works.

Never devalue the profound importance of the normality of any day or endeavor. These are the materials that produce the fires of the miraculous.

‘Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin..’ [Zechariah 4:10].
