“Something To Think About” B101.5FM Radio Message 8/4/16

There’s a story of a man who came upon a scene of thousands of sea stars that washed up on shore after a fierce storm. Carefully, he began to pick them up and place them, one at a time, back into the ocean.

Someone who was watching him, approached him and asked, “Hey man, there are so many of these here, how in the world can you possibly make a difference?”

The man gazed at the sea star he held in his hand and said “Well, all I know is, it’s making a difference to this one.”

This story, first and foremost compels us to ask a question. Are we the person in the story who is trying to help the sea stars, or are we the person just watching others trying to help, and questioning their actions and results?

It is true, the needs that are represented in this world today can seem both overwhelming, if not at times, impossible. But the greater truth is, God will use and bless every effort we bring forth, to try and make a difference, no matter how large or small.

Mother Teresa said: “We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.”

Jesus said:

“With man things are impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26).

One of the greatest ways to help, is found in the power of prayer. It honors God, and changes things, when we take the time to lift up the needs that are represented on this earth, both close to us, as well as the ones on the other side of the world. If you are able to both pray, and lend a helping hand, go for it, and God will bless you. If for some reason you are unable to lend a hand, then just pray, and God will bless you. Either way, you will be blessed, and what you do will make a difference.

Today, watch for that opportunity to do something wonderful. The need may seem great, but let your drop be found in the ocean of God’s unfailing love.

John said: “He who does good, is of God.”
