Peer Pressure

Peer Pressure

When we think of peer pressure, we normally think of teenagers and children. You know the reality of a child or young person doing or participating in the wrong thing or action in an attempt to fit in or be a part of a group or click. It is sad, difficult, and a very serious issue. In fact, even young people, from small children all the way up into colleges, have lost their lives because of participation in the matter of peer pressure. So tragic to hear of peer pressure leading to death.

Yet, peer pressure exists among adults, just as much or more as it does with young people. We know as grown-ups that it’s just as easy to be pressured into doing things we know are not right because we don’t want to be alienated or seem uncool. How amazing, that even at adult level living and thinking, peer pressure can still release tremendously negative consequences in an innumerable amount of ways. Not to mention that adults would even be susceptible to this kind of thinking or suggestion, just to impress others, or maintain a so-called “relationship[s]”. Hard to believe, but unfortunately, true en masse. God help us!

Let’s face it – us big people need to set an example for the younger people in our lives by remembering that it’s never right, to do the wrong thing, nor is it ever wrong to do the right thing, no matter who’s involved or watching. We must also recognize that it will always be our actions in front of them, that will always outweigh the words we speak to them.

If you are serious about making a difference in the lives of children and young people by setting an example for them to be inspired, strengthened, and taught by love, action and leadership – here’s the Good News – God will help us!

‘You shall not follow the masses in doing evil.’ [Exodus 23:2]

‘My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.’ [Proverbs 1:10]

‘He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.’ [Proverbs 13:20]
