‘Something To Think About’ B101.5 FM Radio Message – 1/5/16

There’s a story of a man who came upon a scene of thousands of sea stars that washed up on shore after a fierce storm. Carefully, he began to pick them up and place them, one at a time, back into the ocean.

Someone who was watching him, approached him and asked, “Hey man, there are so many of these here, how in the world can you possibly make a difference?

The man gazed at the sea star he held in his hand and said “Well, all I know is, It’s making a difference to this one.”

This story, first and foremost compels us to ask a question. Are we the person in the story who is trying to help the sea stars, or are we the person just watching others trying to help, and questioning their actions and results?

It is true, the needs that are represented in this world today can seem both overwhelming, if not at times, impossible. But the greater truth is, God will use and bless ‘every’ effort we bring forth, to try and make a difference, no matter how large or small.

Mother Teresa said: “We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.”

Jesus said: “With man things are impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26).

One of the greatest ways to help, is found in the power of prayer. It honors God, and changes things, when we take the time to lift up the needs that are represented on this earth, both close to us, as well as the ones on the other side of the world. If you are able to both pray, and lend a helping hand, go for it, and God will bless you. If for some reason you are unable to lend a hand, then just pray, and God will bless you. Either way, you will be blessed, and what you do will make a difference.

Today, watch for that opportunity to do something wonderful. The need may seem great, but let your drop be found in the ocean of God’s unfailing Love.

John said: “He who does good, is of God.”

  1. I’m glad that God has given me the opportunity to be a part of this ministry.I’ve seen how one simple hug, phone call, or just simply telling people to come and see has made an eternal difference in people’s lives. It truly does make a difference!

  2. Awesome word! For a long time I was the person questioning the action. I felt like how can I one person help so many…. But what I learned is that it is God working though me…. It has helped me realize that everything I do helps spread Gods word… It pretty awesome…I’m just in awe of Gods Love and Mercy that every soul matters….Everything you do matters when you are doing it in Jesus Name…..

  3. Amen pastor Dave ! It makes me think how the people we see everyday are like those starfish, and if we could just toss them back into the water of Gods word.

  4. As an assistant teacher at Lighthouse Academy of Fredericksburg, I’m surrounded by children 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I’ve come to a greater appreciation of children through my job. They are truly a blessing. Throughout the day, you have to be a Christ-like example to them. That is a lot of time! Being a Christ-like example to the children is my number one goal. Is education important? Yes, of course, but without Christ what would be your goal in life?
You never know that when you give a child a hug or an encouraging word, how God uses that gesture to blessed that child. And that child that just got blessed, will bless someone else or was steered in a better direction.
I play the guitar for my class worship in the morning. We always start the day with Worship and Bible Study. I play a couple of songs a day and I switch the songs around each day. When I started worship at the beginning of the year, it felt like me and the Head Teacher were the only ones really singing. But as the school year progressed almost all the children sing. The one thing that really blessed my heart was when I heard parents tell me that their children were singing the songs at home. Praise God!! Those couple of songs a day is being woven into their hearts and minds. They will know those songs for the rest of their lives and someday might need that one song they heard long ago in times of trouble or blessing! Psalm 8:2 say “Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.”
That one song, or that one hug, or that one encouraging word at a certain moment can set that child up for success in Christ. And what miracles God can bring out of that child’s life. God’s Love Truly Never Fail!!
