“Think On These Things” B101.5FM Radio Message 4/30/17

Have you ever heard the saying: ‘Each day look for something positive, and if you can’t find it, look a little harder.?’ Now it is true, there is much taking place on the world stage that is ugly, reprehensible, violent, and completely indefensible at every level. These realities should neither be ignored, or dismissed. So the question is, how can a person come to a place in their lives where they are aware of those dark, negative and destructive forces operating in the world, but at the same time – be aware of, and see those things that are good, decent, and positive in this life?

There is only one answer that will stand the test of time. God tells us to look to Jesus, the ‘Author and the Finisher of our faith.’ Without a supernatural and eternal perspective on the issues of good and evil, life and death, war and poverty, etc., it is very easy to be brought to a place where these day to day realities can have a mind and heart numbing effect. Looking to Jesus, brings us to looking to the cross. There is the place where we see the combined forces of hell, horror, and hatred operating in brutal force against all that was pure, and all that was innocent. A perfect and innocent man. And not only an innocent man, but the Son of God. Yet, in the midst of what appeared to be total darkness and defeat, ended up in the release of pure and perfect light with total and complete victory.

‘We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.’ [2nd Corinthians 4:18’]

Not even the devil himself was able to understand or comprehend what God was doing, and working out, against him, and in our behalf, in the midst of that dark and horrific situation. To only look at the cross in the moment would have made it impossible to find anything at all good, positive, or beneficial in any conceivable way. Yet, to see it through the eyes of history and the resurrection of Jesus, we now see, and know, that this was the greatest moment in human history in behalf of all humanity. God was then, and is now, working all things out toward the reality of eternity and everlasting life. He tells us in His word to look to His Son, because it is in Christ that we learn to see through, and beyond the darkness, and the temporal, into the light of His divine wisdom and grace, and what will remain forever. We also see the absolute defeat of evil, and through His word, the eventual end of evil.
