“Something To Think About” B101.5 Radio Message 1/16/17

The stone was huge, the boy was little – The boy would pull with all his might.

His dad said – “Son, are you doing your very best? The boy said “Of course I am” – as he continued to struggle.

Again the Dad said, “Are you sure your doing your very best?” The boy said “Yes” – but the huge stone didn’t budge. Finally, the Dad said, “Son, you’re not doing your very best, because you haven’t asked me to help you, and I’m big enough to move the stone.”

How many times in life have we struggled so desperately with an issue, a circumstance, a situation, a task, etc., that is so huge in it’s weight. Yet the struggle continues, the huge stone doesn’t budge. There are many reasons for this.

One, is an insistence on having to do everything alone or our own way – or both. Even though God has provided very capable people to assist with the task, we are unwilling to ask for help. It would not be a stretch to call this pride.

Another reason, is the fear of embarrassment. There are many who struggle with ‘Huge Stone’ issues, because they are afraid of what other people might think of them if they admitted their need, or the details of their dilemma, crisis, or issue.

But a major reason is something we will all face from time to time in our lifetimes, and that is the reality that there are just some ‘Huge Stone’ issues that NO AMOUNT of human strength could ever move. The bottom line is, in those times, without God’s divine and supernatural help, the stone will never budge. Our story of the little boy, the Dad and the huge stone best reflects this one.

Sometimes, as hard as we try, our own strength is just not enough. Not even a ‘faith’ in our ‘own strength’ will ever be enough. Even the help and assistance of others, still, will not get the job done or the crisis solved. But if we ask our Heavenly Father with faith in Him, and a dependence upon His strength, even the very mountains will move. And that can easily be defined as ‘a Huge Stone.’

Jesus said: “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible to you.’ [Matthew 17:20]
