Muhammad Ali

“Something To Think About” B101.5FM Radio Message 8/17/16

Just about every morning we face the reality of hard work. Many times we feel it goes unrewarded or even unnoticed.

The great heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali said, “The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses – behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights.”

Many years ago, before God called me to the ministry, I owned my own business which was part of a very successful international company. In fact, I was a record breaker and a record setter in that company. In order to break and set records, I had to pay heavy-duty dues on the streets, door to door, long hours, even deep into the freezing cold nights of winter, and the seemingly unending hours of the blistering heat of summer. Rarely did I ever work less than 16 hours a day, 6 days a week.

Each week my name and face were on the top of the International Newsletter and each year I was given first place awards, trophies, and medals. Even trips to beautiful and extravagant places to see and experience with my wife. Many people would congratulate me, ask for advice, even want to take pictures together with me. What they never saw, however, was the absolute hard work and constant sacrificial effort it took to not only obtain that status but also maintain it.

Over the years the trophies, awards, and medals have all been lost or left behind. But the one thing that has not been left behind is the work ethic and character that God formed in my life during those years.

Many great champions in many different fields throughout history have said that faith and hard work, behind the scenes, is where the true development of character, victory, and the real winners are found.

God always sees what others do not see. And faith combined with hard work will never go unrewarded.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest, if we do not give up.” [Galatians 6:9]

  1. I too went thru a life of drugs and abusive marriages. My friends at church, most of them, don’t know but God and those I tell my story to do. They feel no differently than anyone else, only closer to me and love me more. God turned my life around and I thank Him by helping others and using my story to try and change others that Satan has fooled & ruined their lives or worse.
