Monarch butterfly

“Something To Think About” B101.5FM Radio Message 8/11/16

I love this one, “What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the Master calls a butterfly.”

Talk about having a right perspective! We have all felt like the caterpillar from time to time. Fatigue, stress, daily struggles, heavy workload, pain, deadlines to meet, even loneliness.

If you could get inside the head of a caterpillar, I can only imagine what he must be thinking. Days of turmoil, hard work, cocoon building, enemy birds on the prowl, and what’s the payoff if you make it through all of that? A couple of days of slow crawling and then, see ya!

The truth is, many people feel this way on a daily basis. Days filled with work, deadlines, rush hour, unfulfilled goals, broken dreams, even broken hearts. There are many who struggle with regrets, and memories hard to bear. Others have the daily hardship of physical pain, or an affliction of some kind, as well as the toughest of all, the loss of a loved one. And at the end of all of this, death. For so many, this all leads to the feeling of life seeming empty, cold, and meaningless. Actually, there are more that feel this way than would ever care to admit.

The worst thing for anyone to embrace in all of this is hopelessness. The Scripture says: “Hope deferred makes the heart sick…” (Proverbs 13:12). Life without hope is the breeding ground for so many horrible and destructive things. Addiction, depression, relational hardships, stress, worry, suicidal thoughts, and worse.

But for those who have opened up their hearts to the power of God’s unfailing love, they find the rest of the scripture that began above. Here is the scripture completed…

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life.”  (Proverbs 13:12)

The tragedy is, many are stuck in the first part of that scripture. But coming into a real, daily, living relationship with God is the second part of that sentence. Once we find God, all desire, all dreams, all hope, is fulfilled. Then we find that in the midst of the daily cares of this life, something wonderful is forming in the midst of all these things.

The truth is, the caterpillar does become the butterfly. Click To Tweet

Jesus, dying on the cross for our sins was the caterpillar. Jesus in His Resurrection and the Kingdom of God awaiting us is the butterfly.

Paul said: “Our troubles last only for a short time, but they are earning for us a glory that will last forever.” (2nd Corinthians 4:17)
