‘Something To Think About’ B101.5FM Radio Message – 1/17/16

My wife said to me, “Honey, it’s a new year, what do you think people are thinking about?” I said “Weight loss and credit card debt.” She said “Exactly.”

Then I thought, “Wait, is she trying to tell me something?” Well, my tummy, and my credit card gained a ‘little’ weight. But I’ve got eight grandchildren – there’s no getting out of it!

Weight loss and credit card debt – they are tough! A good start is not using the credit card to buy a weight loss product. I know what it is to be in and out of debt. I also know what it is to fluctuate in the weight department. I always tell my wife, “I have an awesome six pack, you just can’t see it.”

Many people struggle with these two issues. A great lesson I have learned is there are no shortcuts. True results require faith, purpose, and discipline. Every time I’ve tried to take the easy way out, both the debt and the waistline increased. Every-time!

So what’s the answer then? Well, bottom line – one ounce, one pound, one penny, one dollar at a time. But the good news is, we don’t have to do it alone. A losing formula says: “I got myself into this situation, and I’ll get myself out.” Untold numbers of people have found that kind of thinking either prolongs, or for many, even worsens the situation. The winning formula flows out of an invitation from God’s unfailing love for us. He says: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28). No need to be in these tough things alone, and living without results, ever again! God wants to be our debt counselor and our weight loss instructor. And best of all – it’s absolutely free!

God’s word provides us with the wisdom, help, guidance and instructions we need to be victorious in every area of our lives. As we seek the Lord for his help and wisdom, we find He also provides His Holy Spirit to strengthen us to embrace the courage and the discipline we need to move forward – But with joy and faith, and the blessing of God’s presence – not operating alone in sadness and regret! It is a miracle and a blessing to know that God walks beside us every step of the way. Being honest acknowledges that reducing debt and losing weight is not easy. But God’s word acknowledges that they are both, absolutely – doable.

Although there are many, many scriptures that God has provided to assist us with every area of need in our lives, I have often found that this one is among the greatest: ‘I can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength.’

As you come into this new year, one of the very best things you could ever do, is to just simply and sincerely ask God for His daily help and guidance, and most importantly, His daily leadership. Determine that you want the help and wisdom of the Creator of heaven and earth, to help create fresh success, breakthroughs, blessings, results, and achievements in your life.

After all, what do you have to lose? Well, some weight and some debt for starters.
